Winter weekend + a good start of the first working week (NL)

Slowly my live in Trondheim is starting to get into a normal pace. My first three real working days are over already and I like it a lot. I have two enthusiast supervisors, who have a lot of time for me and together with them I dived totally into a new project and the lab. I like it so much so far, that I haven't been coming home before 7 yet, while I started working each day before 9.
Though, before the start of this working week, I enjoyed a relaxed weekend. Friday night this started with again a innebandy training and afterwards I had a look at the weekly party of the International Student Union. This organization organized its parties in the basement of my own building. Unfortunately this party was mainly a pre drinking party between 8 and 12 PM. When I ordered some lemonade the girl behind the bar got a questioning face, when I took my wallet it came out there were no prices for non-alcoholic drinks. The small amount of non-alcoholics they had was actually ment for the cocktails.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon I took the tramline from the city centre of Trondheim to the Bymark, the nature reserve near the city (By is the Norwegian word for city). I enjoyed a tramride of only 20 minutes bringing me from down town 300 meters up, via the suburbs I slowly got in the a ‘Christmas card scenery': a thick layer of snow, evergreen trees and a lonely wooden houses.

During the hike on the snow free path I needed to pay attention to cross country skier's slipping across my path. From the last tram stop I made a nice hike. My purpose was at about 500 meters height in the Studenterhytta, or student cabin. The cabin is owned by the students sport organization and every Saturday later in the afternoon pancakes and soup are served. IN the beautiful cabin was a relaxed atmosphere with a lot of international students and a great panorama on sunny Trondheim. Definitely a place to return to!

After 3 pancakes I could luckily walk downhill. Sunday afternoon snowflakes were swirling in front of my window, which continued for almost 24 hours.

At the end of the afternoon I went to the supermarket, where a small surprise was waiting for me. The supermarket has a separate Sunday department, only the fridge department overlaps with the ‘weekly' store. On a Sunday a much smaller choice of products with only on cashier, and no alcoholics for sale, luckily I again did not need those. I think this is to save staff costs on a Sunday. When I was going to bed Sunday night there was a noisy snow ball fight below my window, being fought by a group of international students. Though no hard feelings, I remembered a snow ball fight in Wageningen around the same time, but then more than a month ago.

Monday morning the snow layer was about 20 centimeters. The bus was only two minute delayed; these were two more minutes to take a picture from the bus stop.

For the small parts of slippery pavement I still decided to take my hiking shoes. If I would have been a real Norwegian, I would have changed my shoes for slippers at the university.

In the meantime the snow has almost disappeared again. Tomorrow morning my day starts at the police station, no worries, I did not do anything wrong, I hope to get my temporary residence permit.
